About Himalayan Centre for Arts and Culture

Situated at 121 Great Junction Street, Edinburgh, the Himalayan Centre is both a charitable organisation and a social enterprise. Its primary mission is to repurpose the former Dr. Bell’s Swimming Pool building into the Himalayan Centre for Arts & Culture, thereby establishing a premier venue accessible to all members of the community without regard to gender, or political, religious, or other opinions. In partnership with local authorities, voluntary organisations, and the community, the Centre aims to provide facilities promoting social welfare through recreational and leisure activities, with the overarching goal of enhancing the quality of life for residents in Leith and the surrounding areas.

The Himalayan Centre is devoted to advancing education by organising and coordinating training sessions, mentorship programmes, and classes that are inclusive of all community members, with a focus on aiding those who are confronting social and economic adversities.

Furthermore, the Centre is committed to enriching arts, heritage, and culture through the hosting of educational and entertainment events, including conferences, training projects, and a variety of performances and exhibitions in music, art, and drama.

In its efforts to promote community development and urban regeneration, the Himalayan Centre actively involves volunteers to ensure that the provided services meet the community’s needs. This involvement not only helps in delivering new skills and perspectives to the participants but also strengthens the Centre’s engagement and connection with the community.

Moreover, the Himalayan Centre is dedicated to initiating, supporting, and managing additional projects and programmes that align with its charitable objectives, ultimately benefiting the community within its Area of Benefit, adhering to British English conventions in its communications and operations.
